Paris in the Springtime

Paris in the Springtime! Don’t let all the movies and love songs fool you, Paris in the Spring is a Texan’s sweater and coat weather! The bright side of being horribly unprepared in the clothing department was shopping for more weather appropriate attire!
I was directed to Printemps, which means Springtime of all things. I was skeptical when I realized it was a department store, I like to shop small, find little boutiques with little brands…then I walked inside and everything changed. This was not just any department store this was the mother of all department stores! It was what all department stores should aspire to be!  Two massive gilded doors were opened by two handsome young men in immaculately tailored suits, my heels clicked on the polished marble floor.  Ladurée was on my right, Chanel was on my left  it smelled of fresh flowers and expensive leather, I want that smell bottled! After walking around in a daze for a few minutes I began my mission. Level five and I became grand friends. Level five = Shoes. We found what we needed, and a few things that we didn’t,  Jess (my accomplice in all things shopping) and I said au revoir to Printemps then promptly recharged with macarons and tea.

After a grueling day of shopping for jackets and shoes!

We Love Festivals!

collage

Coco and Duckie was able to attend the Gentleman of the Road tour in Dixon, Illinois this summer!

The entire town was transformed into an entirely unique festival experience. All the storefronts had GOTR posters or flags, the city marquis and flagpoles had thumbs up signs flying, even private homes were  decorated for the event!   The town apparently had 12,000 visitors for the festival almost doubling the towns population!  My personal favorite was the Keep Calm and Sigh No More in the window of a home!

Our favorites were (obviously) Mumford and Sons! Besides the music the best part was the lighting, we couldn’t quite catch it on film but the light and set design created a magical ambiance! With cafe lights strung out over the audience and vintage movie lights on stage that flared with the music made the entire place glow!

After standing listening to bands for about 10 hours we were more than ready to head back to our hotel and dream sweet with ‘I Will Wait‘ echoing through our dreams! We ran into something unexpected on the way back to our car…..a piece of the Berlin Wall. Dixon, IL is Ronald Reagan’s hometown, and after the wall fell he was shipped a piece. It was interesting side note.

Mumford and Sons released their album Babel last week and it has been on repeat in the Coco and Duckie office ever since! Till next time!

Cheers,

Awesomeness!

It’s going to be awesome! Our all time favorite indie band from NOLA is coming to perform at Coco and Duckie! That’s right Youth Sounds will be doing two sets for us! So mark your calendar for May 5th, 2012! Youth Sounds will perform at 11:30 am and at 1:30 pm  in front of Coco and Duckie!

A little bit about Youth Sounds….

The peaceful ambience that is Youth Sounds comes from an innovative brother and sister duo that understands who they are and what they have to offer. Hailing from the streets of New Orleans, Erika and Federico Mejia are self-taught musicians that gained experience in church choirs and developed their crafts by remaining artistically stylish.

The combination of Erika’s soft and whispery voice gliding over Federico’s piano leads and house backbeats on their debut EP “The Bit Parts” expresses the aptitude this duo possesses. Youth Sounds feels familiar and inviting in their effort to bring fresh melodies during hard times.

Youth Sounds’ elegant appeal and dreamlike moodiness branch from their appreciation for art and film. Encompassing these ideals in their music captures the essence of purity in their craft. Take part of Youth Sounds’ journey at www.youthsounds.com

In addition to the awesomeness that is Youth Sounds a TrollBead Trunk Show will also be running! There will be three different specials to choose from PLUS all Trollbead rings are 50% off!! So come in and say hi this coming Saturday!

Cheers Lovelies,

Duckie

Happy Happy Fall

Happy Fall everyone!

The holidays are just around the corner and we are ever SO excited, considering it is the most wonderful time of the year! ;)  We have decked our halls and hung our mistletoe at the shop and we are ready to celebrate! This season inspires us, everything from falling leaves, spiced drinks, warm cocoa, turkey to roasting chestnuts!

To set the mood over at Coco and Duckie we are burning our new favorite seasonal candle, Twilight Vanilla!

Fragrance notes: delicate notes of dreamy vanilla and sweet coconut are accentuated with rich patchouli.

We are currently listening to a ‘winter mix’ (since it’s not quite Christmas time yet).

Including Mumford and Sons, Ellie Goulding, Ingrid Michaelson, Death Cab, Bon Iver and Florence and the Machine to name a few!

Last night at Thursday Night Out in Bellville we were serving a mulled cocktail, that was quite festive if I do say so myself!

I unfortunately neglected to snap photos while I was making components for the cocktail we served last night, you will just have to try the recipe out your self and we would love to see your photos (you could add them to our Facebook wall)!

Coco’s Champagne Cocktail

Yields 1 gallon

Tools:

1 large stock pot

1 fine mesh strainer

cheesecloth

1 ladle

Ingredients

1 large piece of ginger root

4 large oranges

2 Tablespoons of clove

2 Tablespoons of freshly grated nutmeg

1 Tablespoon of ginger powder

3 Tablespoons of cinnamon

1 Tablespoon dark molasses

1 Gallon of cranberry juice (no sugar added)

1 Bottle of champagne

1) Take the rind off all of the oranges then cut the fruit in half, set in the pot.

2) Cut the ginger in small-ish chunks, set in the pot.

3) combine all spices and whisk to break up any chunks, add to the pot.

4) Add molasses to the pot.

5) Pour cranberry juice on top and bring to a boil. Once the mixture has boiled let cool  for 30 minutes and repeate the process three times. then let chill in the pot overnight in the refrigerator.

6) Once it has chilled for at least 12 hours, strain the mixture through a fine mesh strainer lined with cheese cloth so there will be a very small amount of sediment in the cocktail. Discard the ginger, oranges etc.

To serve, fill a champagne glass 1/4 of the way full with your mulled cider and top with equal parts champagne! Then eat, drink and be merry!

Till next time!

Cheers,

Duckie xoxo
