Time flies when you're typing! We'll post more soon and meanwhile, let us know what you'll be attending in the comments below.
Finding your signature fragrance can be a serious matter. Everyone has their own perfume style, maybe you like to mix and match and keep people guessing. Perhaps you like to have a mainstay fragrance that is always associated with you. The Coco and Duckie girls have put together a little FYI fragrance sheet. Do you know what the top note’s role is in a fragrance? Well, read on and find out! If you are on the hunt for a new fragrance we have put together a few fun fragrance profiles for you to peruse. Comment on this post and let us know what fragrance style you most identify with!
Top Notes (also called head notes): This is the first part of the fragrance that you smell! The top notes of a fragrance usually evaporate quickly. Top notes are often described as fresh, assertive or sharp. This scent is what will initially draw you to a fragrance, though the base notes are actually a big contributor to substantiating the top notes.
Duckie’s favorite top notes: Ginger, grapefruit
Coco’s favorite top notes: Clary sage, bergamot
Middle Notes (also called Heart Notes): This is the scent that you notice just as the top notes are dissipating. The heart note is a bridge to transition the head note to the base note. Sometimes the base note does not smell pleasant at first so the heart note calms the base note until the base note has evolved into a happier scent.
Coco’s favorite heart notes: Lavender, lemongrass
Duckie’s favorite heart notes: Cardamom, jasmine
Base Notes: Base notes and heart notes mingled together are the true soul of a fragrance. The base note is most noticeable once the heart note evaporates. The base note brings depth to a fragrance, making it rich and more complex. The base notes are also the slowest to evaporate, sometimes lasting more than 24 hours after application.
Duckie’s favorite base notes: Oakmoss, amber
Coco’s favorite base notes: Vanilla, sandalwood
Now that you know how fragrances are composed and layered, read on and see what fragrance groups you are most drawn to! Coco tends to wear floral or floral & fruity fragrances and Duckie is torn between ozonic and mossy notes!
Fresh Fragrances: (Citrus, Marine, Ozonic ) You identify with Meg Ryan from When Harry Met Sally. You know what you like and you aren’t afraid to ask the waiter for it. You are organized, you carry hand sanitizer in your purse (which is meticulously organized by the way). You would choose a pair of Repetto flats over Jimmy Choo stilettos any day.
Fragrance Suggestion: Watermint
Floral Fragrances: (Jasmine, Tuberose, Gardenia) Fresh baked cookies? Why, yes, we would love some! You are a domestic goddess, or at least you like the thought of it. Baking cookies, handwriting letters and mixing the perfectly dry martini are but a few tricks in your arsenal. You are the perfect mix of the ideal hostess and wallflower. You are demure and feminine but not afraid to speak your mind. To you, perfume means “flowers,” and you don’t see any need to question what has worked for millennia.
Fragrance suggestion: In Love
Fruity and Fruity-Florals: (Grapefruit, Apple, Cherry Blossom) You are cheeky, flirty and fun, fun, fun! You are most likely the heartbeat of the party and you always see the glass half full! Your dink of choice is a anything with an umbrella and you are almost always wearing something that brightens up a room. Your fragrance of choice is most likely something with jasmine and maybe grapefruit, you like to add a bit of zing to the equation!
Fragrance suggestion: Coconut Milk Mango
Gourmand: Your recipe would read, 2 parts hopeless romantic mixed with 1 part seductress. You want to smell like vanilla, cotton candy and chocolate, theses are the things that people would want to nibble on now and again! Your motto is ‘the bigger and brighter the better’! You will never understand why anyone would choose cream over bright red. Even though outwardly your vibe is sultry, you still love spending a night in with a chick flick and a pint of Chunky Monkey.
Fragrance suggestion: Bittersweet
Mossy and Woody: Your vibe is unblushing femme fatale. When moxie is defined in the dictionary, it would just have your name listed. You’re a single-malt scotch sans umbrella kind of girl. You don’t particularly like being described as a ‘girl’ - you are a woman. You want your fragrance to leave an impression, much like your personality does. You go for dark lingering fragrances.
Fragrance suggestion: Bulletproof
Leather, Tobacco, Musk and Incense: You might own a smoking jacket…or two. You read Russian literature (for fun)! When people tell stories that involve a serendipitous meeting with a mysterious stranger, the stranger was probably you. You love the smell of pipe tobacco and musk, your perfume reflects that.
Fragrance suggestion: Excess

Everyone gets in the mood for 'Spring Cleaning' once in a blue moon, for the Coco and Duckie girls, the mood struck at the end of the Summer. We were making plans for our newest shipment of cute vanity trays that are arriving at the shop this week when one of us shared that she would love to have one for her vanity. The only issue was...there was no space on her vanity!
Coco and Duckie is a family affair and we all know that everyone has different strengths (and ‘non-strengths’). For some in our family, organizational skills are…well, a non-strength. This summer, one of us decided she’d had enough of her messy vanity area and discovered the wonders of Pinterests’ organizational pins and a few great blog posts. Armed with some good ideas, a trash bag and several new storage containers, she began the task of going through everything on her vanity! She decided what to pitch, what to keep and where to put it.
The task that seemed daunting didn’t take nearly as much time as she thought it would, now everything has its place and her vanity area is much prettier now! She readily admits to her ‘non-strength’ in organization and was so glad to conquer the clutter. Below, we have shared a few tips for making your morning ritual areas pretty and pleasant.
1) Decide what look you want to go for, i.e. shabby chic, minimalist, vintage glamour etc.
2) Open your cabinet doors, drawers and consider wall space to organize your things. Use your space. One recommendation that we read used acrylic holders attached to the inside of cabinet doors for extra storage. Hanging travel make up bags are so handy when traveling, why not hang it up behind a door for additional storage space?
3) Find or repurpose containers that will fit in your decorating scheme to organize all your bits! Don’t forget the value of drawer dividers, too! We also used some cutely wrapped boxes for storage, as well. So many things can be repurposed for storage including: a spice rack shelf, cake stands, cupcake pan, eyeglass cases, wine racks, cookie jars and ice cube trays. On the vanity, Duckie's favorite jar for makeup brushes is an empty Cafe Du Monde can with some glass rocks in the bottom to add a bit of stability. Denise prefers antique cut glass jars, trays and vases for her makeup and perfume, while Coco keeps hers in pretty antique tea cups and on china platters.
4) Empty your cabinets, drawers and flat surfaces. Clean them! It’s always better to start fresh with a clean palette. We love using Caldrea’s Pear Blossom Agave Countertop Spray, it’s safe for most surfaces and yes, you can get yours at Coco and Duckie. We won't guarantee that it makes cleaning more fun, but it definitely smells better than lysol!
5) Begin to throw away what you don’t use and check items for expiration dates. If you haven't used it in 6 months....pitch it!
6) Sort everything like with like! When everything is crammed together, it can be frustrating trying to find that one shade of eye shadow you’re looking for or that lippy that matches your favorite pair of heels!
7) Organize away! Make sure what you use every morning is the most accessibly. Items you use a few times a month can go in those harder-to-get-to places.
These points were super helpful when she was deciding what goes where! You can also check out our Pin Boards, we made one in honor of organizing our vanity tables! Click here to see ‘Everything In Its Place’!
Till next time!

Summer is coming to a close and you know what that means? School is starting up again! We know you have been scrambling trying to get all the necessities ready for the first day and that is why we are celebrating the first day of school with a bit of retail therapy and Mimosas! After you drop off the kids, stop by for a little relaxation and refreshments! We are hosting our annual Moms & Mimosas at Coco and Duckie on Monday August 24 from 8am-noon! We hope to see you there!
We have put together a few of our favorite party ideas in case you want to throw your own Moms Back To School bash! We have searched high and low for the prettiest, yummiest and easiest recipes for your own Brunch Fête to celebrate the kiddos starting back to school!
We all know that brunch is best. One reason why brunch is the best meal of the day is that so many brunch appropriate recipes are easy to make! Our first pick for a savory snack is this delicious Smoked Salmon & Zucchini Bake.
Not only is it delicious, but also it’s easy peasy to make and a perfectly pretty brunch bite! It can be prepped the night before and stored in the refrigerator, or it can be baked ahead and served cold!
Serves 6 Friends
50 g flour
2 C. Whole Milk
2 tablespoons olive oil
4 large Zucchini
8 Slices of Smoked Salmon
½ C. Chopped Chives
Preheat your oven to 425 °.
Beat the eggs, add the flour and mix well.
Gradually add the milk and olive oil.
Add salt and pepper (Not too much though, the salmon is already salty!).
Cut the zucchini into little sticks.
In a buttered ramekin, arrange a layer of zucchini, chives, 3 or 4 bits of smoked salmon, repeat then finish with zucchini.
Cover with the egg mixture.
Bake until the top is golden & the center no longer jiggles (approximately 30 minutes).
And now, for the fun part, the Mimosa Bar! We found so many pretty drink recipes it was hard to choose just one to feature. But, you are in luck we made a fancy-schmancy Pinterest Board with all sorts of options!
Setting up a DIY mimosa bar is by far our favorite party element! It’s décor and drinks all wrapped up into one cute area, plus it’s a fun ‘activity’ for you and your guests. We can pretty much guarantee everyone will want to participate in this party 'activity'.
Here is what you will need....
Champagne (or sparkling wine): One bottle per every 4-5 friends, though it’s always a good idea to have an extra bottle of bubbly on hand. For an alcohol-free version, simply replace the champagne with soda water, we are huge fans of Fever Tree's Indian Tonic Water!
Fruit Juice: Pick three or four different juices, it’s always a good idea pick juices with contrasting colors! It will make for a more interesting display and your bar will have pops of color! Our favorite juice options are grapefruit, peach nectar, cranberry, pineapple & watermelon.
Fresh fruit: The prettiest way to infuse the drinks. Raspberries, blueberries, blackberries and champagne grapes are easy options that don’t require much prep!
Garnish: Because a little bit of green can really brighten up your glass and make a more flavorful drink! Our suggestions are rosemary, sage, cilantro, basil and lime leaf.
Serving Elements: Champagne glasses, carafes, little bowls and an ice bucket.
Here is your checklist to set up your mimosa bar, most of this can be done the day before.
Arrange your cute glasses on the 'bar'.
Pour the juices into the carafes and label them.
Arrange the fruit into bowls and set aside a small spoon for each dish.
Put the herb garnishes into dishes and label. Set aside a small pair of tongs.
Set out your ice bucket.
Add any extra decor to your bar if you like, such as paper straws, cute napkins, fresh flowers, bunting, or a bar sign.
The last and most important thing, pour yourself a drink and have some fun!
We know the little ones will be at school....but we couldn't resist making a pin board of all the adorable things we found for the kiddos!
We hope you and your kids have a spectacular first day of school and we hope to see you soon!
