Coco and Duckie's Halloween Traditions

Coco and Duckie's Halloween Traditions

We love Halloween! We think that one of the best things about holidays are the unique traditions every family, group of friends, or individual adds to the celebration! Every person celebrates with their own unique spin and we love that! If you are curious, here are some of our favorite Halloween traditions!

To Coco and Duckie, it wouldn't be Halloween without Bats and Cobwebs! While candy may be important to some, Halloween is so intertwined with Bats and Cobwebs that we don't know if it would be Halloween without it! Of course, this recipe comes from Martha and it is a really tasty and fun seasonal treat! We recommend cozying up on the couch and watching one of our recommended movies while enjoying the cheese filled goodness!

 Bat's and Cobwebs Recipe

  • 1/2 pound bow-tie pasta
  • 1 teaspoon olive oil
  • 1 garlic clove, minced
  • 1 can (28 ounces) whole peeled tomatoes, in puree
  • 1/4 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/8 teaspoon sugar
  • Coarse salt
  • 2 precooked chicken sausages (about 3 ounces each), cut crosswise into 1/4-inch-thick rounds
  • 8 ounces mozzarella cheese, cut into small cubes (1 3/4 cups)
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Prepare the pasta according to package instructions. After draining; set aside.

  2. Meanwhile, heat oil in a large saucepan over medium heat. Add garlic; cook until fragrant, about 1 minute. Next, add tomatoes, oregano, and sugar. Bring mixture to a boil, then reduce to simmer; cook, stirring and breaking up tomatoes until slightly thickened, 5 to 8 minutes. Season with salt.

  3. Add pasta, sausage, and half the mozzarella; toss to combine. Transfer to a 2-quart baking dish. Top with remaining mozzarella and Parmesan. Bake until bubbly and top is lightly browned, 10 to 15 minutes. Serve with Romaine Salad.

Music is one of the quickest and easiest ways to get the holiday spirit flowing! We put together a mix on spotify, in case you don't already have one.

Movies! Is there anything better than staying up late with a steaming cup of tea, snuggled in a chunky sweater watching spooky movies? I think not. Here are a few of our favorites to watch this time of the year...

1. Scared Stiff - There are few things that Coco thinks would make a movie better than Dean Martin, Jerry Lewis, and Carmen Miranda. Add ghosts, songs and some mobsters to make Scared Stiff a great not-too-spooky Halloween flick.

2. I Married A Witch - Duckie's favorite Halloween flick, Veronica Lake's gorgeous locks are reason enough to watch this movie, all of the laughs are just a bonus!

3. Arsenic and Old Lace - While Cary Grant considered this his least favorite performance, we completely disagree. Top notch acting all around in this slapstick Capra piece from 1944.

4. Nosferatu - The perfect Halloween movie, it's eerie in the way only silent films can be. The shadows and cinematography in this film are just perfect!

5. Spellbound - This 2011 Korean Romantic/Horror film may not have been on your to-watch list but it should be! Great actors, an interesting plot and a really cute leading man make this ideal for a slightly spooky addition to your Halloween movie night.

6. The Masque of the Red Death - We consider this movie a meme.

7. Meet Me In St. Louis - So much happens during the Halloween scenes in this Judy Garland classic that it is a must watch for October 31st!

8. Practical Magic - This movie requires hot chocolate and cuddly blankets.

Once everyone else is asleep, now is the perfect time to crack open a new book. Grab your favorite hot beverage and get cozy with one of these slightly spooky reads!

Duckie's favorites

The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern

Northanger Abbey by Jane Austen

The Complete Poetry of Edgar Allan Poe

Petty Magic by Camille DeAngelis
